My first job when I graduated university was at a boutique interior design firm in NYC. It was a brief but glamorous stint of one year, but I gleaned a number of gems from the designer and owner of the firm while I was there. She would say “lighting is the jewelry of a room”, and every room she designed reflected that! I loved that saying and adopted the idea that each room can be a jewelry box.
I have lived in many places of “varying” beauty. Some where I had no control over the lighting or other important design elements and others where I had more control, but not the freedom of funds. However, over the years, my husband Tyler and I have built up a collection of treasures to put in our current jewel box. Some of them are precious heirlooms that we have been gifted by family. Others are special pieces we chose together that are a token of our amalgamated taste. While at times we had to put some of the most desired design projects on hold, we spent the first 14 years of our marriage working on the most valuable treasure that this jewel box holds. Our home is a temple for the love, joy and faith of our family to thrive. While I have always cared about the appearance of a space and atmosphere, without depth of love even the most gorgeous space lacks beauty.
Five years ago, our family moved into an epic Victorian Townhouse. The house is dripping with original features. However, some of the original charm is markedly missing: the light fixtures. Where are the Crystal chandeliers or the milk glass shades? All gone, and replaced by home depot goofiness. I’ve wanted to change them since day one, BUT good things come to those who wait. Coming soon I’ll be posting about one of the new chandeliers we have chosen and also solicit your opinion for others we need to choose.

Our living room.
FINALLY, we are quite literally about to do my most anticipated project of “turning the lights on” and adding the proverbial jewelry to our walls and ceilings. At the same time, I feel an inward stir that it is time to “turn the lights on” and share a glimpse into the joy and beauty of the home life that we have been cultivating these past 14 years. Jewelry in its essence is meant to embellish beauty that is already present. Jewelry showcases a beautiful face, or in this case a beautiful space. Our home and the life going on inside these walls is much more than a pretty face. My hope is to inspire you!

My early morning word station before anyone else is awake. Always a candle, and always a cup of coffee in my favorite mug.
